Typography 101: Best Fonts for Ads
Fancy fonts are hard to read. Here is why simple fonts get more clicks.
Designers love fonts. There are thousands of them. Some look like handwriting, some look like old newspapers, some look like graffiti.
But for an ad, you only care about one thing: Readability.
The Glance Test
Your user is scrolling fast. If they can't read your headline in 0.5 seconds, they won't read it at all.
Serif vs. Sans Serif
Sans Serif fonts (like Arial, Helvetica, or the font you are reading right now) are usually best for digital ads. They are clean and modern.
Serif fonts (like Times New Roman) have little feet on the letters. They can look traditional, but sometimes are harder to read on small screens.
Avoid Cursive
Never use cursive or "handwriting" fonts for your headline. They are too hard to decipher quickly.
