Facebook Ad Design Mistakes That Kill Your Results

You can have the best product in the world, but if your ad looks sketchy, amateur, or confusing, nobody is going to give you their credit card number. Design is trust. When someone sees your ad, they are subconsciously asking, 'Is this a real company?' Bad design screams 'Risk.' Here are the most common design mistakes that send potential customers running away.

These mistakes aren't about 'ugly' vs 'pretty.' They are about communication clarity.

1. The 'Wall of Text' on the Image

Facebook used to have a rule that text couldn't cover more than 20% of the image. They removed the rule, but the principle remains. If you put a paragraph of text on your image, nobody will read it. The image is for feeling; the caption is for reading. Keep image text to 3-5 words max (like a headline).

2. No Visual Hierarchy

When someone looks at your ad, where does their eye go first? If your logo, the headline, and the product are all the same size, the eye gets confused. You need a hierarchy.
Tier 1 (Biggest): The main image/product.
Tier 2 (Medium): The headline/offer.
Tier 3 (Smallest): The logo and button.
Guide their eye through the story.

3. Bad Cropping

You cannot use one image size for everything. If you take a wide horizontal photo and put it in an Instagram Story, the sides get chopped off. You might cut off half your product or the important text. You must create separate sizes for Feed (1:1) and Story (9:16).

4. Low Resolution (Blurry)

This is the fastest way to lose trust. If your image is pixelated, people assume your product is low quality. Always export your images at 1080x1080 pixels minimum.

5. Weak Contrast on Buttons

If you put a 'Shop Now' button on your image, make sure it stands out. Don't put a light grey button on a white background. Make it red, black, or bright blue. It needs to look like a button that is begging to be pressed.
